NouRooz Celebration

Over 150 Zarthushtis, young and old, came out to celebrate NowRooz in style on March 21st, 2009 at the Holiday Inn Park View Hotel. A festive NowRooz table with Haft Sheen and Haft Seen items was set up in one corner of the room.
The evening started off with a “Humbandagi” of 2 Yatha Ahu Vairyos and 1 Ashem Vohu, led by Kersi Aspar and the children. Following this the President’s Speech, by Russi Ghadiali, highlighted all the achievements of the Committee for the past year. New members of the community were introduced and newborn children were felicitated.  Ang paos were distributed to all the children in honour of NowRooz as well.

The highlight of the evening was a joyous, rhythmic and exhuberant performance by 12 of our little ones to the tune of Bollywood’s “Desi Girl”. The children did an outstanding job and were enthusiastically cheered on by the entire gathering.  This was followed by an explanation of NowRooz and the NowRooz table, by Jasmine Dastoor.

A sumptuous dinner of many delicious items including chicken makhani, naan, rice, vegetable lasagna and many other dishes, along with a variety of sumptuous desserts rounded off this wonderful evening.

The finale of this evening was the crowning of our very own Ms. NowRooz: Suna Kanga and Mr. NowRooz: Dinyar Panthakee. They sportingly danced the first dance of the evening together.

It was truly a fun filled, eventful evening filled with many memorable moments, good cheer and laughter.
