Presentation by Chairman Mr. Darayus S. Motivala

Mr. Darayus Motivala, Chairman of W.Z.O., kindly agreed to come and make a presentation to our community on December 16th, at the Makena function room. Mr. Motivala has been with the W.Z.O. for the past 17 years.

The W.Z.O. is headquartered in the U.K., and has a quarterly magazine the Hamazor. Its website is www.w-z-o.org There are representatives of 10 countries on the board of W.Z.O., including our very own Russi Ghadiali.

In his presentation Mr. Motivala informed us of W.Z.O.’s global membership, global fund raising and fund distribution, as well as representing Zarathushtis in instances of persecution.

In India, W.Z.O. Trusts run by Mr. Dinshaw Tamboly, have helped in building 2 senior centres in Navsari, replacement brick cottages for poor Zarathushti farmers, and in the alleviation of poverty of poor Zarathushti widows and children. Mr Motivala also clarified that W.Z.O. India is no longer a part of W.Z.O., or the W.Z.O. Trusts in India.

In Iran, W.Z.O. has established a day senior citizen centre in Yazd, as well as a skills centre and Kerman Anjuman Education Grants.

Worldwide there are the World Zarathushti Trust Fund, the Kutar Fund, and the in North America W.Z.O. helps through the Fali Chothia Fund.

For a lot of us it was enlightening to hear how this world Zarathushti body is working globally towards alleviating the plight of needy and impoverished Zarathushtis.

Our sincere thanks to Mr. Motivala for taking the time to meet up with members of our association.

After the talk everyone enjoyed feasting on the complimentary biryani, and the ravo kindly made by Behroze Setna and bread pudding generously provided by Piloo Chacha.
