Welcome

PRESIDENTS REPORT FOR THE PERIOD 1ST JANUARY 2008 TO DECEMBER 2008.

It was a lovely crisp evening and light breezes were gently swaying the boughs above us as we slowly gathered into a small but fun group and splashed into the pools at the Mandarin Gardens Condo.

Squeals of laughter erupted as children used their watrer-spray-guns to the hilt and many of us who had otherwise planned to stay dry were drenched and soaked. The evening was gathering momentum as the 'daru' urges came on and ice-cold beer cans cracked open.

Two hours into the wet-madness and fun, we thought it was time to get really Parsi and visions of the mouth-watering Allaudin Biryani started getting vocalised. Dried and ready we headed up to the Mandarin Function Room where other members had already gathered to spur on the monthly get-together. More bottles got pulled out and more laughter could be heard over the blaring Bollywood numbers belted out by the recorder. Thanks to those for the amazing 'Kachumber' to go.

Slowly the line at the Biryani table began to gather momentum and news spread like wildfire in the room as to how 'yummmmmy' this Biryani is. This time we had new members, guests from overseas and the works feasting on this gorgeous Indian gourmand display.

Children ran around all over and the lovely large balcony of the function room became a veritable open-air playground. Bellies stuffed we still hadn't had enough. What with the mouth-watering dessert table beckoning, it was hard to resist. There was ice-cream and caramel custard and a gooey chocolate cake all vying for attention. The July-birthday dudes and babes (which inciedntally happened to be two extremely excited little children) eagerly carved into the cake as we sang for them.

Like all monthly events it was wrap-up time and the clean-up began, still laughter ringing in the air.  Goodbyes said we all began heading home filled with happy hearts and heavy, albeit very satisfied  bellies looking foward to the next monthly fun and frolic together.

Before we pen-off though, we as a committee would like to extend our special thanks to Piloo Aunty Chacha for a most delicious veg Biryani and custard and to Jasmine, Dilu, Manesh, Armin, Neville, Freddy and Navaz for the hard work they put into making this such a lovely evening and helping to clean-up thereafter.

NEWS

Parsi Zoroastrian community in Singapore.

Wish you all a very Happy Jamshedji Nauruz Mubarak.

At the outset, let me take this opportunity to thank all the Committee Members for their continued support and dedicated work.

We now have 11 members on the committee, as per the resolution passed at the last AGM and happy to report that we had full attendance at almost all meetings, and active participation from them. Committee meetings were held regularly and almost every month various activities were arranged.

Minaz Kanga besides being the secretary continues with the weekly prayer classes for the children. Dilnawaz Zaveri was appointed as treasurer and did a very good job. Ervad Percy Khambatta and his two sons Zephyr and Zeus are regularly called for public prayers by IRO.
We take this opportunity to thank them for sparing their time.

We continued holding the yearly party for 25 abused and orphan children at McDonald. Twelve members and their children also attended the same.

We also participated in the Singapore Heritage Fair, under the leadership of Daisy Irani Subaiah and our young 12 beautiful ladies wore gara and other saree's and stole the show. Let us show our appreciation to Daisy and all the participants.

We submitted a bid for 2013 World Zoroastrian Congress in partnership with Singapore Tourist Promotion Board, and were considered to be the best bid.  But without any justification the new trustees of the Bombay Parsi Panchayat decided to hold the congress in India.  It was a big disappointment for our young enthusiastic committee members.

We continue as an active member of inter religious organisation, being one of the 10 religions registered in Singapore.  IRO just celebrated its 60th anniversary.
IRO was invited to China to have dialogue with the 5 religions in china and it is now agreed that IRO and China will hold a religious artefact's exhibition in Singapore at Suntec from 16th to 23rd December 2009.
We will participate in this exhibition and hope that the whole community will  come together as one team and help.

We have also volunteered to help the Singapore environment.
We are going to plant twenty trees at two plots allotted to us near the Kallang  River at Tanjong Rhu by parks and recreation dept. We have to pay $100/-per tree and then the parks and recreation department will look after the trees. At the moment we are only allotting one tree per family and all twenty are booked by our members.

I am happy to report that with the grace of God Ahura Mazda our small but vibrant community continues to live happily in Singapore and sincerely hope that we will also be able to successfully tide over the current recession.

Before I end, I would like to invite all committee members. Daisy Subaiah, Percy Khambatta and two sons Zephyr and Zeus to come forward and let us give them a round of applause for their dedicated service to our community.

Once again, A Very Happy Jamshedji Mubarak.

Thank you

Russi M. Ghadiali
President.
